Pull Care Guide
To avoid any surprises when washing your sweater (such as shrinkage), we offer some advice on maintaining your garment. While each sweater is unique due to different yarns and materials, and thus reacts differently to washing, these tips can help prevent any issues. Synthetic materials like acrylic, polyester, or polyamide are resistant to washing, even at higher temperatures, meaning over 30°C.
Natural fibers, however, are more sensitive to heat. Within these, wool and cotton react differently. Wool is more delicate, which is why our washing machines are specially programmed for wool washes as they are delicate cycles. Merino alpaca wool sweaters, however, wash well in the machine as long as the temperature is below 20°C. Temperatures above 20°C risk shrinking the sweaters. Cotton sweaters can be washed at temperatures up to 30°C.
Tip: Turn your sweater inside out before machine washing to protect the outer visible side. The inside of the sweater will then be in contact with the drum rather than the visible outer part.
Hand Wash vs. Machine Wash
For cashmere and silk sweaters, it is strongly recommended to wash them by hand due to their delicate nature. To clean a stain on a light-colored sweater (whether wool or cashmere), hand wash with warm water (30°C) and gently rub the fabric with stain removers.
A sweater does not need to be washed after every wear. If the sweater is not stained, it is advisable to wash it after five wears. Washing can be beneficial as it helps to moisturize the fibers, making them more resilient and reducing pilling.
Tip: For sweaters that are not stained, opt for a cold wash on a delicate cycle. Water and detergent alone will suffice to clean your sweater.
Drying
It is strongly advised not to use a tumble dryer for drying your sweater, regardless of the material. The heat from the machine can cause the sweater to shrink. If your machine has a spin cycle, choose a spin speed between 600 and 800 rpm. After spinning, your sweater will still be damp. It is best to dry it flat on a drying rack or on a towel laid out on the floor. Once dry, you can iron it if necessary. When ironing, use a gentle touch and avoid excessive heat to prevent damaging the yarn.
All sweaters are made differently, and a high-quality sweater crafted by a skilled expert will last longer than one made with a mere commercial intent. While we cannot guarantee the same level of quality elsewhere, at Nitto Knitwear, we pride ourselves on producing durable, elegant, and comfortable sweaters suited to the season. We ensure that all steps in the design and production process are meticulously followed. Our sweaters are washed and dried, so the yarn is already prepped and fluffed, meaning it has its final form and is much more resistant to washing.
