washing of sweaters

to avoid any surprise when washing your sweater, (we think of shrinkage), we propose to advise you on the care of your garment. if all sweaters are different because they are knitted with different yarns and materials, thus causing different reactions to washing, some tips can help you avoid any inconvenience. synthetic materials such as acrylic, polyester or polyamide are resistant to washing, even at high temperatures, that is to say, at more than 30 °.
natural materials, however, are more sensitive to heat. among these, it is necessary to differentiate between wool and cotton, which will have a different reaction. wool is more sensitive, which is why our washing machines are specially programmed for wool washes, because they are delicate washes. merino alpaca wool sweaters, however, wash very well in the machine, as long as the temperature of the program is lower than 20°. in fact, a heat higher than 20° would risk shrinking the sweaters.
for cotton sweaters, they can be washed at a temperature less than or equal to 30°.
it should be noted that repeated contact with the drum of the washing machine accelerates the wear of the sweater and it is therefore important to choose a delicate program in order to preserve the durability of the product.

tip: turn your sweater inside out before washing it in the machine to protect it. it is indeed the inside of the sweater that will be in contact with the drum and not the outside, visible part.

hand or machine wash

for cashmere and silk sweaters, it is strongly advised to wash the sweaters by hand. they are indeed fragile and require more care in maintenance. to wash a stain on a light colored sweater, (whether it is wool or cashmere), it is necessary to prefer a hand wash with hot water (30°) by rubbing the material with stain remover products.
a sweater does not need to be washed every day. if the sweater is not stained, it is advisable to wash it after five wearings. the washing of the sweater is not only negative for the material, it also allows to humidify the fibers, which makes them more resistant and avoids the sweater to pilling.

tip: for sweaters that are not stained, prefer a cold wash on a delicate program, the water and detergent will be enough to make your sweater clean.

The drying

it is strongly advised not to dry your sweater in the tumble dryer, whatever its material. indeed, it is the heat released by the machine which makes your sweater shrink. if your machine proposes a spin-drying, it is necessary to privilege a spin-drying between 600 and 800 turns per minute. however, after the spinning, your sweater will still be wet, it is advisable to dry it flat on a drying rack or on a towel on the floor. once dry, you can iron it if necessary. on the other hand, if an iron is enough, it is important to iron it gently and sparingly so as not to damage the thread. it is important to note that all sweaters are made differently and that a better quality sweater created by an expert who cares about his work will last longer than a sweater created for the sake of money. we don't know how seriously sweaters are made elsewhere, but we can assure you that at nitto knitwear, we take pride in making sweaters that are durable, stylish, comfortable and seasonally appropriate. we make it a priority to take care of all the design and production tasks of our sweaters. they are all washed and dried, so the yarn is already ready and swollen, in other words, it already has its final shape and is therefore much more resistant to washing.
